Interesting history: The origin of the up to 15m tall clove tree are the indonesian moluccas, also known as the spice islands. Nowadays they are cultivated in many different tropical areas close to water including malaysia, madagascar and indonesia. To produce the spice the closed blossom buds are dried in the sun until they turn dark brown. It is part of a number of different spice mixtures including garam masala and the five-spice powder.
Cloves can help with digestion, against appetit problems and acts disinfectant. Some people also like to chew on cloves due to the light numbing and pain killing effects thanks to the agent eugenol contained inside.
